What do I need to wear?
We recommend wearing loose fitting shorts, two-piece bathing suit, or underwear/bra. No spandex, please. You can change at our office before the session.
What is the difference between Rolfing (structural integration) and massage?
Structural Integration is not massage! We influence structure and work with fascia! If you want massage, please see our Referral page for local therapists.
What is the difference between structural integration and chiropractic?
Chiropractic uses bony manipulation of influence structure. Structural integration uses fascial (soft-tissue) manipulation to influence structure. The approaches can be complementary.
I want to experience Structural Integration. Should I stop other therapies?
We recommend that each client do what works for them. Structural Integration can make chiropractic adjustments easier and last longer. Yoga and Pilates are approaches that work well with Structural Integration.
What is the difference between Rolfing Structural Integration and KMI Structural Integration?
Rolfing is a function based series and is done in 10 sessions. KMI is an anatomy-based series and is done in 12 sessions. Both are derived from the genius of Ida Rolf, PhD.
How many sessions does Structural Integration require?
We offer individual sessions, a 3 session structural series, a 10 Session Rolfing Series and a 12 session KMI series. Call us for questions about your individual needs.
Does this type of bodywork hurt?
At times there may be areas of the body that have more sensation but your therapist will tailor the session to meet your needs and comfort level.
How often should I get sessions?
Once every week or two weeks is optimal but a schedule will be devised to meet your individual needs, finances, and time constraints.
What can I expect from my sessions?
Every session will begin with a body reading in which the therapist will determine the goals of the session based on your individual needs.
Can Structural Integration help with my pain?
Structural Integration can help with pain that has a structural component - most back, neck, joint and muscle pain. Nerve impingements (herniated or bulging discs, pinched nerves) can sometimes be helped if there is no nerve damage.
Can Structural Integration help my workouts?
Increased flexibility and structural efficiency can reduce run times and increase functional strength with less injuries.
I am not experiencing pain at this time. Is Structural Integration right for me?
Structural Integration is a wellness approach often used to supplement weight loss and fitness, self improvement, and injury prevention programs. Those in recovery or counseling have also benefited by getting in touch with their bodies.
I heard that pictures are taken, is that true?
Yes, the option to have pictures taken before your first session, fourth session and after your tenth session provides another way for you to see possible postural changes from our work together.
