Richard has practiced Structural Integration since 2003 and therapeutic bodywork since 1997, working with clients who seek to facilitate life changes, improve posture and movement, or eliminate chronic pain. He specializes in Structural Integration, Myofascial Release, Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Active Isolated Stretching and Strengthening, and movement-based integration. His obsession is to offer clients the best bodywork available, and continually educates himself to meet that demand for excellence.

Richard was trained by Thomas Myers, Rolfer in the KMI method of Structural Integration in 2003, repeated the training in 2006, and assisted the 2008 KMI Training at Body Therapy Institute in NC. He was trained in Visionary Cranio-Sacral Work by Hugh Milne, DO and in Cranio-Sacral Therapy at the Upledger Institute. Richard is an Advanced Myofascial Release Practitioner trained by John Barnes, PT. He was trained in the Perceptual/Tonic Function approach to Structural Integration by Hubert Godard, Rolfer; Monica Caspari, Rolfer; and Kevin Frank, Rolfer. He has trained with Susan Harper and Caryn McHose in movement-based approaches to perception and embodiment. Richard has trained in the Mattes Method of Active Isolated Stretching and Strengthening with Aaron Mattes. Richard has completed the Somatic Experiencing training and is finishing his certification requirements, so he can work effectively with clients dealing with the effects of trauma. Richard has completed the Somatic Experiencing Touch Training with Kathy Kain, SEP. Richard is a graduate of the Florida School of Massage in Gainesville, FL, and completed their 200 hour Sports Therapy Certification Program. He is a student in the Master of Acupuncture Program at Tai Sophia Institute in Maryland that began September 2011.

  

Prior to starting DeepRoots, Richard attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Richard then joined the Army, spending a few years in Aviation before attending Special Forces Assessment and Selection. After two years in the Special Forces Medic Course, Richard was transferred to 3rd Special Forces Group. While in the medic course, Richard rediscovered his passion for bodywork and spent the next several years trying to attend bodywork training. He finally left active duty and joined 20th Special Forces Group in Florida to do so. Called back to active duty after 9/11, Richard served as a SF Medic Instructor on the Trauma Team at the Special Operations Medical Training Center. During his time teaching, Richard spent every opportunity to share his passion for a body-centered approach to injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation with other instructors and students. He also completed his Nursing degree, becoming a Registered Nurse, and started working at Cape Fear Valley Emergency Department to support his 'bodywork habit'.

Richard started DeepRoots Myofascial Bodywork with the purpose of offering bodywork that affects the foundation of the individual; hence the name "DeepRoots." Richard believes that educating the client about their body and promoting self-awareness is just as important as the bodywork itself.
